Get a flawless look with your foundation

Find your shade and look natural with the right foundation

A short time ago I was talking to someone outside.  I could see where she had applied her foundation.  It was not her whole face.  It looked as though she applied foundation just around her cheek area, her nose and the middle portion of her forehead.  It also had a heavy look to it.  I wondered why she didn't notice it.

It got me thinking that perhaps I should blog about foundation and how to make it look natural.

Why is finding a foundation shade so difficult?  One challenge can be discolorations of your skin, which can make finding a foundation color difficult.  You also may have freckles, or if you are like me broken capillaries you would like to hide.

I found it challenging.  In the winter my skin is lighter and in the summer a bit darker, even though I wear sunscreen based day cream.   I never did find my PERFECT match.  Sometimes I combine two foundations.  I use Avon's Ideal Flawless foundation.  I just put a little bit of each color on my fingertip and mix them together before putting on my face.  Some people prefer using a brush, but I prefer to use my fingertips or a makeup sponge.  It is good to try different things to see what works best for you.

It is always best to test a foundation on  your jawline. Be sure you have "good lighting" when testing a shade.  A true match will disappear into your skin.  As I said earlier, you can also mix shades until your true color does disappear.  I use Ivory and light beige.

Remember that foundations are not correctors or concealers.  Be sure to use a concealer for those red patches or other flaws.    I use Avon's extra lasting concealer over broken capillaries along the ridge of my nose and on my cheeks.

If you want to smooth the look of pores and fine lines before putting on your foundation, use a primer.  Avon has a great one called MagiX! Avon's exclusive HD Finish Complex provides the "magic" in this colorless skin-perfector. This lightweight gel to powder formula keeps shine away all day, while it visibly smoothes the look of pores and fine lines. It creates a translucent finish and leaves skin feeling ultra-soft.

A tip to making your makeup look more natural and not heavy is to combine the day cream you are going to put on your face with your foundation.  I like to mix Avon's Ideal Flawless foundation with Avon's AnewVitale moisturizer or Avon's  Anew Reversalist.  It goes on evenly and I use less foundation, which makes it last longer.  I then conceal with either my Avon Extra Lasting Cream to powder foundation or Avon's extra lasting concealer.

One way to find a foundation match is to go to TrustedBeautySales.com (go to makeup and virtual makeover) and do a virtual makeover.  Simply take a picture of yourself and upload it to the site.  From here you can pick concealer, foundation and blush.  You can also complete your look with lip color, mascara and liner.   It's fun and you can share it with your facebook friends.

Which foundation is right for my skin type?

For normal to combination skin types liquid based foundation is light and easy to apply. A mousse foundation can also work well for you, but not so good on dry skin.

If you have dry to normal skin you should consider a cream based foundation because they are oil-based and won't dry out your skin.  Cream based foundations are easy to blend too.

If you have dry or sensitive skin be sure to first get a good day and night cream.  Avon has just come out with a fabulous night mask from their Anew line.  I use to have patchy skin no matter what Day cream and night cream I used until I tried the Anew night mask.  You will love it.

For mature skin, you will want to look for products containing anti- ageing ingredients.  Avon's Anew Age Transforming Foundations is specially formulated for mature skin. It contains elastin and collagen so is great for smoothing out fine lines and you will get terrific coverage.

I hope this helps you find your perfect match to a flawless look.  You can find these products and more at TrustedBeautySales.com - my Avon  E-store.
